Josh J. Holinaty and Genevieve D. F. Simms new zine International Beauty Saloon 4 (The Space Issue) is now available and is filled with a ton of great drawings. I was privileged to get a couple spreads. Only and edition of 75 and at very good price of $5 plus shipping.

The one night only deck art benefit, Bored of Canvas, at Bobby Paul in Port Moody made $600 in the period of 3 hours. With only six artists, the show had great results that will go toward Share Food Bank.

I did a deck using acrylic watered down to look more like watercolor.

There was a Holiday Festival going on at the same time. The free horse carriage rides had kids and parents lined up for a couple blocks.

Bands played without the aid of gloves even though it was freezing.

Gingerbread cookies were created and consumed.

Some great cookies were made.

The cookie I decorated was more abstract expressionist in nature.

Bonhomme was there.

Santa was there as well but with his hand sanitizer.

Chestnuts were roasted.

Marshmallows were toatsted (with care).

Thanks again to everyone who came to event and stops by the shop to see the work.

It was a dark and stormy night… but people braved the wind and rain to come to the Drawing On Vancouver opening at Walrus. Thanks again to everyone that attended, bought art, drank some Phillips beer, and had a tasting of Caroline’s Mother’s baking. The show will be up for the next month, if you didn’t get a chance to see all the great and varied drawings yet.

Lots of people braved the weather to come check out the art and have some Phillps.

All the drawings were set up in time.

These ones were also super good and just melted away in everyone’s mouth.

Some coats and umbrellas were left behind. Hopefully the owners returned to get them.

Drawing On Vancouver, sponsored by Vancouver Is Awesome, hosted by Walrus and supplied with beer from Phillips Brewery is opening tonight at 6 pm and will go till 10 pm.

Along with the local artists, Drawing On Vancouver invited a couple out-of-towners to send in some work. Porous Walker, Don Pendleton, Shawn O’Keefe and Josh Holinaty have never lived in Vancouver but have great friendships and connections with those who do.

Porous Walker
Porous Walker isn’t afraid to draw a penis and sometimes they even climb tall buildings to save the princess. He wishes he lived here and someone should sponsor him so he can take over our city. Anyone who has received a package from Porous has been delight by randomness.

Don Pendleton
Don Pendleton is an Ohio based artist who has a deep connection to the skateboard world and was the subject matter of Little Giants Vol 1. created by VIA’s own Bob K. Don also had a series of Livestock tees that incorporated Vancouver imagery into them.

Josh Holinaty
Josh Holinaty resides and makes his art in the burg of Edmonton. His work has a never-ending well of imagination to created monsters and characters that scare and soulflully entertain.

Shawn O’Keefe
Shawn O’Keefe lives over in Victoria and is one of the members of The Woodpile Collective who have shown and created art for many years now. Shawn’s art covers much ground and takes influence from the forests and alleys of Western Canada.

Come on down to Walrus Thursday night to see the images they all did for Drawing On Vancouver. Things start off at 6 pm.

Vancouver just has too much to see and do, even in the rain. The drawings I did for the show feed off images and the environment of this city. As I was working on the pieces (that you can see at the show), I had a few printouts of pics I took while roaming around. Along with photos, I did a couple sketches of stuff related to Vancouver.

For one of the pieces, I drew a market similar to the one pictured.

Totems seem to be everywhere in this city.

I haven’t been to the top of Harbour Centre since I was about 8 years old but it is still a great landmark.

Just a bit of the inspiration that helped me do the drawings for Drawing On Vancouver.

For Drawing On Vancouver, a few guest artists (folks that don’t live in Vancouver) are sending in some art inspired by this great city.

Porous Walker of course sent more than just a couple drawings. Anyone that has had a random package from Porous, knows to expect the very unexpected.

Just a couple extras that Caroline and Daniel from Walrus were amused by.

Walrus (on Cambie) is hosting Drawing On Vancouver (a drawing show) that is sponsored by Vancouver Is Aweseome and beer provided by Phillips Brewery. The opening is Thursday, Nov 19 at 6 pm.

Show Statement
Vancouver is awesome and the artists that live here are an amazing and hard working bunch. The neighbourhoods, people and environment of this city create a place where one can gather inspiration on a simple walk down the street. This show gathers a few locals and a couple outsiders to celebrate Vancouver through drawing.

A drawing can be as simple as a sketch done in seconds or can take months of detail and labour. They are more than just the pre-planning process of a larger work. Drawings can have a looseness that give a greater feeling of immediacy.
